Who Did What

Daddy helped by taking photos, by typing up my words and by helping me with the ideas and conclusions.

Mommy helped me with the presentation.

Conclusion

Here's what happened:

Diet Coke: 32.75 inches tall, 4 inches left

Caffeine Free: 29.5 inches tall, 5 inches left

Regular Coke: 10 inches tall, 5 inches left

Dr. Pepper: 9 inches tall, 5 inches left

Mountain Dew: 0 inches tall, 6.5 inches left

Strawberry: 0 inches tall, 8 inches left

In conclusion, Diet Coke exploded the best and the worst was Strawberry Fanta. These results were just what I thought. All of them were different sodas and that meant that they all went a different height. They were different because they have different gas bubbles because they come from different ingredients.

Data Collection/Results

My daddy took a picture of how high the soda went. We tried six different sodas. They are Diet Coke, regular Coke, Caffeine Free Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew and Strawberry Fanta.

We measured the house with a ruler because we wanted to see how high the house was. We did that to see how high each one of the sodas went. The baseboard was 4 inches, the first row was 6 inches, the rest of the rows were 6 1/2 inches.

I put the Mentos in the soda. I backed up because I didn't want to get wet. I did the same thing with the others.

Diet Coke was first.

It went 32.75 inches high.

Dr. Pepper was second.

Dr. Pepper went 9 inches high.

Mountain Dew was next.

Mountain Dew went 0 inches.

Strawberry Fanta was next.

Strawberry Fanta was 0 inches also.

Regular Coke was next.

Regular Coke was 10 inches.

Caffeine-Free Diet Coke was last.

Caffeine-Free Diet Coke was 29.5 inches tall.

Because the camera was far away the explosion looked smaller than it really was, so these measurements were a little different.

We also measured how much soda was left in the bottle. Here are the measurements for all of the sodas:

Diet Coke had 4 inches left.

Dr. Pepper, regular Coke and Caffeine-Free Diet Coke each had 5 inches left.

Mountain Dew had 6 1/2 inches left.

Strawberry Fanta had 8 inches left.

Hypothesis

I thought the Diet Coke would explode the highest.

Research

We went to the library and found the book, My World of Science: Solids, Liquids and Gases, by Angela Royston.

Mentos are a candy that is a solid. A solid is something that you can feel that has a shape. The shape of a Mento is a circle. Solids usually are hard or soft. A Mento is something that is hard because it doesn't when you press it. Solids are rough or smooth. A Mento is smooth because it does not have bumps.

Sodas are liquids because when you pour them into a cup, they change their shape to match the cup. If you pour them they will not become heaps or piles. Sodas are thin because they pour fast.

Soda has bubbles inside it. They're gas bubbles. Those gas bubbles are CO2 gases. We cannot see it. We cannot feel it. We can smell it.

We went to the Internet because we were looking for research about exploding soda.

We went to Wikipedia and learned that Steve Spangler exploded soda before everybody else. Mythbusters are cool because they exploded the soda so big. It was 34 feet tall. They did it on TV. I saw them do it 34 feet tall.

We also learned that it can explode because the candy makes the bubbles turn into gas.

I saw a man get sick because he put Mentos in his mouth and he drunk on Diet Coke. You should not that because you'll get sick.

Question

My science fair project was "which soda explodes the best"? The purpose was to see how high all of the sodas went.

Welcome

This blog is for my science fair project. My school is Roberts Elementary. I'm in kindergarten. I am doing this because it is fun.

My question is "which soda explodes the best"? I wanted to do this project because I saw it on a TV channel. The guys exploded the soda with Mentos. I liked it because it looked fun.
